In preparing this collection for publication, its authors pursued several goals. First, to revive the collection "Computer Optics" that was popular in previous years. Second, to publish the proceedings of the 5th International Workshop on Image Processing and Computer Graphics: "Image Processing and Computer Optics", held in Samara in August 1994. It should be noted that, thanks to the support of the Optical Society of America, these papers were published in CIIIA in a special issue of SPIE, v. 2363, 1994 .
