Digital image processing methods for identification of medieval watermark images

Abstract:
This paper presents a relational multimedia database (images and text data) developed for watermarks of medieval manuscripts. It also presents a specialized integrated system for managing this database and digital processing of watermark images. The database currently contains over 2000 watermarks. Most of these watermarks are taken from manuscripts and incunabula stored at the Klosterneuburg Monastery (Klosterneuburg, Austria).
